SPORTS PROJECT - SURF AT PONTAL DO LESTE
After researching the fishermen villages around Ariri, I identified a good opportunity to initiate a sports project in the region - a surf school at Pontal do Leste (East Point), a community situated on the Ilha do Cardoso (Cardoso Island). Children and teens have manifested a desire to learn how to surf, and others to improve their skill in the sport. I have been thinking about this and praying for some time. Pontal is a village with deep rooted catholic traditions, and as yet there are no converts to Christ.
PURPOSE:
My desire is to create a personal attachment, minister the Word before each class and offer the young people, teens, and children a knowledge of the Scriptures, in a secure and good family atmosphere; and teach them the techniques of swimming and surfing.
Through this project, as well as the activities of the evangelization ministry in the homes, I would like to rech the loved ones of Pontal, Barra and other communities, proclaiming the repentance and the Lordship of Jesus Christ, thereby planting the church of Christ and His Kingdom in this region.
NEEDS:
Equipment in the region, besides being very costly, does not offer much variety.
To initiate the activities, we need the minumum of:
3 surf boards
2 large surf boards
Cords
Rubber suits
Lycra T-shirts
Some have surf boards, but not everyone, and they are not in very good condition. I have mended some of them myself.
