One of the means of survival of the families that live on the islands of the Delta do Parnaíba comes from fishing for crabs, very common in the region.
The meat of the crab is very much appreciated by the Community, and hotels. And the shell of the crab serves as a decoration.
Landuá is a type of trap made with the a net placed in a round hoop, with the bait inside, many times a fish. And when the tide is low it is the best time to catch the crabs.
The crab is cooked in a large pan with water and salt. It is sold whole, or just the meat.
