STORY OF A FISHERMAN
I am Edivan,I am 28 years old, I am a fisherman and live on Ilha Sta. Bárbara, in Maranhão. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At the age of two I had a convulsion and was totally paralized. Slowly I regained movements of my limbs, but I have difficulty speaking, and even to this day, I am unable to learn to read or write. After seven years, a teacher of the school sent me home and said I should not return, because of my limitations. This made me very sad.
I began to work very early, together with my father and my brothers, fishing and other heavy work. Because of the great efforts, I contracted serious problems in my spine. I suffered terrible pain, but because of the need, I continued working hard. Then at aa early age I began to spénd the money that I earned on drink for myself and my colleagues.
In 2015, I heard the EMAF missionaries speak about the Gospel. I understood the message and decided to give my life to Christ. He changed my life completely. Even when my colleaguess provoked me, tempting me to abandon the Faith, I remained faithful.
I have the joy of supporting the work of the church in my Community. I do not know how to read, nor write, but with the portable sound box or with my mobile phone, I connect the Bible, praise, and Bible studies on audio for others to hear. I invite others to the meetings and assist the volunteer teams who visit the island to preach the Gospel here.
